Vanagon Transmissions
2 Wheel Drive
2 wheel drive manual Vanagon transmissions come in several forms. The 4 speed is the most common and is more available. The more rare 5 speed is harder to find and only necessary with certain lower power engines. The more powerful engines have no need for that lower first gear.
The ideal interface between Subaru engines and manual Vanagon transmissions. Made from an aluminum alloy casting, it is precision machined and is designed to use an integrated slave cylinder & release bearing. This housing bolts to your four speed or Syncro transmission and connects directly to any Subaru engine from 1990 onwards.

4 Wheel Drive
The legendary Syncro 4 wheel drive Vanagon transmission is an amazing piece of engineering. Its actually a 5 speed gear box but first gear is actually super low and is rarely needed on the street. “Granny gear” will take your van up the steepest grades. For years many parts were getting hard to find. Now. 35 years later there are a few select companies producing great quality parts. Fortunately we can proudly see the Syncro vans on the road for many years to come.
