June 18-21, 2009

You are invited to the 13th Annual Transporter Werks party
with a bonus day of 4-wheelin’ this year!

The 13th for Transporterwerks, but the first party in Uwharrie!!  Bring your camper or 4x4 whatever and have some fun hanging in Uwharrie National Forest.

If you don’t have a four-wheel drive vehicle, come to camp anyway, and we will make sure you catch a ride in one.  We'd love to see some Syncros out there to show those other 4 wheel vehicles how its done!  We have campsites reserved at Badin Lake Camp Site -- sites 27, 28, and 29 on the upper loop.  See the Badin Lake Camp website for more information about the sites and a map here.

Come early for setting up and 4-wheeling, then join the big party on Saturday.  Utensils will be provided for our pot luck dinner.  Hope to see you there!!

UNF Work Weekend

June 20-21 is also a Uwharrie Work Weekend...this is when folks can help out the rangers for a few hours to help keep the park clean and open for all to use. It is a great oppurtunity to give back to the park and help generate money used to keep the park open.

How does it work?

You meet at the Uwharrie Hunt Camp at 9am.

Let the rangers know what group you are with--they take down total number of folks that show up and turn that list into the government. The government then gives money towards maintaining the park in next year's budget. (We think the figure is $75 per person, per hour.)

After they take a tally, everyone heads out to the trails that need work. The work sometimes includes sometimes just picking up trash or hanging red diamonds on trees to mark trails. The Rangers inform you about what help they need.

The work usually lasts from 9am-12pm, then you are free to enjoy the rest of the day! In exchange, you receive a free day pass to wheel and enjoy the trails for the day. This would be a great oppurtunity for the VW crowd to show their support.

--Thanks for the info Ken!
